The unforgettable characters from the beloved novel come to thrilling, laugh-happy life in this funny and frill-free “festival” adaptation of Victor Hugo’s popular literary classic.  The premise of this creative adaptation makes staging a breeze:  outside the great Notre Dame cathedral 50 years after the original story’s fateful events, a troupe of youthful players leads the rabble of Paris — and sometimes even the audience — in recreating the riotous adventures of the misshapen but tender-hearted bell ringer Quasimodo.  Of course, the story wouldn’t be complete without the beguiling gypsy dancer Esmeralda and her clever goat Djali, dashing Captain Phoebus, despicably devious Dom Frollo, romantic and starving poet Pierre, the down-to-earth gang-leading Queen of Thieves, comically bitter recluse Paquette, and more!  With simple props and an essentially bare stage, this comedy is easy and economical to produce.  The Hunchback of Notre Dame provides a fast-paced, fun-filled opportunity for a large cast of actors to become engaged in a literary masterpiece with imagination, ingenuity and lots of laughter. (Pioneer Drama Service)

Robin Hood: Naught in Nottingham

With Jacob DornWith a quiver-full of gags, slapstick humor and hilarious anachronisms, this is a Robin Hood like you’ve never seen him — or rather HER — before! The vain and pompous Prince John squeezes the simple folk of Nottingham’s purses by raising taxes and ordering the Sheriff to set up a speed trap. Robin and her band of outlaws, including panini-craving Friar Tuck, sensitive giant Little John, girly-girl Maid Marian and wise-cracking Nurse Betty, wandering minstrel Alan a Dale and his cheerleading Bench Wenches, and more, turn the tables on the benighted Sheriff, thwart crybaby Prince John’s nefarious plans, and take the braggart warrior Gal of Gisbourne down a few notches. There’s horseless jousting and a show-stopping archery contest with moving targets at the world’s first Renaissance Fair, goofy disguises, silly chases, epic battles with pool noodles, and merriment galore. At last, with a guest cameo by King Richard, all things “naught in Nottingham” are set aright. (Under contract.) (Pioneer Drama Service)

SET:  INTERIOR RESTAURANT SET
TIME:  ABOUT 50 MINUTES

Our apologies to Cyrano de Bergerac!  In the Kingdom of Mall, the entire Food Court marvels at the exploits of the long-nosed alley rat, Sir Nose, ace detective and poet extraordinaire.  In his spare time, Sir Nose even helps the bashful Taco Bill woo the lovely Wendy Freiberger by feeding him romantic rhymes from a nearby trashcan.  But when Sir Nose’s ’arch’ enemy, Professor McRonald, and his henchmen, Corporal Saunders, Herr Wienerschnitzel, Dragon Panda and Short John Silver, kidnap the Burger Queen, the fat hits the fire!  Sir Nose and his clumsy sidekick, Pizza Mutt, need to ’take out’ the criminals before the Dairy King is forced to fork over the recipe to his secret sauce as ransom.  All poor Burger Queen wanted was for her new Burpee Banana Boat to become a gastronomic sensation.  What are the recommended daily allowances for giggles and guffaws?  Do you want fries with that?  Though low in nutritional value, the super-sized portions of slapstick humor, non-stop action and tongue-in-cheek puns make this a recipe for hilarity.  The simple set and flexible casting provide the ingredients for a deliciously fun, economical and over-easy comedy that can be produced on short order. (Pioneer Drama Service)

The Three Bully Goats Griff

CAST:  FLEXIBLE CAST OF 9 (2M, 2F, PLUS 5 ROLES THAT CAN BE EITHER)
SET:  EXTERIOR PASTORAL SET
TIME:  ABOUT 40 MINUTES

With a tweak and a twist, the children’s tale of the Billy Goats Gruff has become the perfect tool to teach elementary audiences about bullying.  Children will delight in this light-hearted, funny show, hardly aware that they’re also receiving a timely lesson.  The two toll trolls who are bickering on a bridge have a ‘falling out’ after Billy, the smallest of the three goats, decides to become a ‘bully goat.’ As if paying a toll to get across the bridge wasn’t bad enough, now anyone who dares to trip-trap over the bridge gets knocked off by Billy.  Willy, her peace-loving medium-size sister, tries to talk her out of it, but alas, she ends up over the edge herself.  Fred, the biggest of the three goats, just wants to eat grass on the other side and even unwittingly helps Billy just so he can eat sooner.  At first it seems funny, but the unfairness of Billy’s bullying becomes more and more apparent as one innocent victim after another gets pushed off the bridge.  Finally, pasture planner Dee Veloper, political candidate Polly Titian, prima ballerina Ismelda Slipper and mail person Carrie Post gang together with the other victims to teach Billy a lesson.  Your audience will love the silly characters and non-stop action in this easy-to-produce one act, which comes complete with discussion questions to ensure that, beyond the silliness, an important lesson is learned. (Pioneer Drama Service)
